Hi everyone,

Just my luck a old aquantaince of mine learned computer programming. We're the best of enemies. The first virus he sent to my email box with a nasty letter. (2 years ago)

The second was probably through a chat room where a jpg was sent, I'm not sure. (just recently)

Isn't it against the law to send these files. I would really like to shut his programming life down.

He's got to be dumb to send me a virus twice!

Where do I report virus writers or people who intentionally send viruses? Thanks

Hi Tricia,
If writing and/or programming a virus is legal depends on the country where it happens. What you can do if somebody is bothering you is:

1. Report his doing with proof virus mails to his ISP.
2. If that does not succeed, go to a Lawyer, who can guess you what you can do.

Never try to apply the same methods like him.

Last but not least: install all precautions you can do to keep intruders out.

PS: JPG-Files will not transport viruses.

Can someone get the address to my computer if chatting on msn messenger or playing chess at yahoo? Thanks

Games are usually not operating via a Central server and that could be a way to find your current IP.

in the us it is not only illegal to send a virus, but also illegal to threaten to send a virus. i believe it is a gross misdemeanor or posibly a felony. show proof to the senders isp and take action from there. you can contact the state attorney general and they can point you to any other agencies you may want to contact regauring this.
good luck. that is what i believe to be correct.
if it is not, let me know so, i can expand my brain power

Yorkeylady,
Im not sure about games online but no-one can get your IP address from MSN messenger, the only way you can get a IP from MSN is if you chat to the person and get them to accept a file transfer.Since its a direct connection your IP will be visible to them and vice-versa.However,if you are only a modem dialup to the net(not cable/dsl etc) it wont matter because everytime you connect you will be assigned a new IP.

The jpg picture was a file transfer from msn messenger to me, I didn't transfer any files from my computer to them.

The picture didn't show up in the browser. I scanned it with Trend-cillin and nothing was there. The virus detected later was funlove.4099

But what just happened today has me bothered.

I was reinstalling all my programs and msn was the last program I installed. MSN messenger still has record of online indicator for my kids email addresses who are with 'my worst enemy'.

I let my daughter use the computer. She clicked out of the firewall I just installed not knowing what it was (supposedly). Then my computer went into multiple booting! It rebooted itself with out human intervention I don't know how many times. I just had to lauph and tell her she can't use my computer any more!. This is the third or fourth time this week I've formatted and reinstalled all my programs.

If it's 'my worst enemy' they got my IP from msn messenger.

I would love to catch this jerk. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. Thanks
