Hi all,

First and foremost, I do not have a great deal of cicso experience. What I am attempting to do is connect 2 2950's via 1000BaseT GBICS's. Model number WS-G5483.

According to what was recommended by Cisco support I should be able to set up these two, which are roughly 40 ft from each other, this way.

I have run bgrand new Cat5 from the existing switch to the location of the new switch. Ran express setup on the new 2950, assigned an IP.

After going through the set-up, I cannot connect to the network. All on the same sub-net, and yes I made sure the GBIc was installed, but I get no LED's on either end.

Everything will be OK in the end.
If it's not OK, then it's not the end

And to get rid of the obvious:
The interfaces, GBIC and VLAN1, are 'no shut'.
No VLAN or Trunking issues.
The 2950's both have the same IOS.
The CAT5 cable is not close to power cables.

Thanks for your help, for the most part I just needed a sanity check. Turns out it was a cabling issue, the ends were not installed properly. So after re-crimping the ends and giving lessons to the individual who did them the first time everything is up and working.

I guess it's always the little details that bite us.
