My PC (HP Pavillion, Win98) all of a sudden will not retrieve data when connected. I can dial in and connect, but I am getting DNS errors in my browser. My employer is also my ISP, so I brought it in to work. They said it wasn't the modem. I can't ping the server, and the server can't ping me, I get a timed out message.

When I run winipcfg, it says under the PPP adaptor that the license begins and ends on Dec 1, 1980. Our network admin reinstalled the TCP/IP protocols, but it still doesn't work.

Does anyone have a clue how to fix this? I don't want to have to reinstall the operating system. Thanks in advance.

Check out the following Microsoft Q article:

This will tell you have to reinstall Dialup networking and tcpip protocols. I created a batch file that will rename all those files and extract the orginal files from the .cab's. I have used this a couple of times and it helped me. Hope it helps you. Let me know what happens.
