We are running Access 2000 .adp using SQL 2000 server and have started using some wireless clients and they work fine but some times when they go from one part of the building to another and jump between access points, with the db open, they get connection failure and have to close and reopen db to get back. It's basically the same as if you are a wired network and unplug your ethernet connection for a few seconds. It has to be because of the loss of temporary loss of network connection. Is there a way to auto refresh connection some how or possibly catch the failure and reconnect somehow? Thanks Joe

Joe,

With Access, I would say this is a horribly dangerous thing to do. If you're going to let users do this, I would suggest that you make backups several times a day. It may not have corrupted your database yet, but it will--I promise you that it will. Access is very bad about becoming corrupt when connections are interrupted.

If it were my databases, I would insist that my boss go to bat for me in laying down the law of the land and telling people that they _absolutely must_ close the database before moving from one spot to another with their database. If that's not feasible, move the data to SQL Server, PostGre, Oracle, or some other more robust data engine. If that's not feasible, tell your boss that the data _will_ become corrupt at some point, and that you will not feel responsible for it, as you have already given warning of the dangers.

The real issue here is your wireless network is not up to roaming. Either get it upgraded or tell people they cannot move between 'cells' in the way the think they can.
