I have been trying without any luck to connect an XP Home PC to our business domain thru a vpn (using a dreytek vigour 2600 router).

Have only learnt yesterday that this is not possible as XP Home cannot join a domain (but only a workgroup). This is because Active Directory will not authenicate this computer and allow it to join the domain. Is there any way to add this computer to active directory, by either adding the full machine name or any other settings to enable this???)

Otherwise we are forced to upgrade, the final question being is there an upgrade of home --> pro or is a fresh installation required?

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks and happy easter

Andrew

Handlebar,

One option would be to use PPTP/L2TP built into both Win2k server and XP home. You'd have to enable RAS and PPTP on the server (use these intructions: ) create a user account with Dial-in permissions for the domain, and create a VPN connection on the XP Home machine making sure to "Include Windows Logon Domain" under the options tab.

Post back if you have further questions.
