I have a win nt4 server, sp 6, running ras. my server is connected to a smc internet sharing device, a 7004bvr, link for its spec is
I cannot connect to the server using vpn. I have verified ras configuration, verified that the smc device is setup to allow pptp pass-through, and out of despeartion, used virutal server settings to enable ports 1723 and 47. I just can't this thing to work. I have been working on it for a week.

As an aside, I previously had tried a gvc 1p004 internet sharing device, configurued similarly with no success.

I am just ready to give up. I am feeling extremely stupid. Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Trombone,

Not familiar with that router, but the only way this will most likely work is using port forwarding (the virutal server settings you mentioned). Unfortunatley just enabling port 47 won't do it. Actually GRE is IP protocol 47 not port 47. You'll have to forward IP protocol 47 to your NT 4.0 VPN RASS. Under your forwarding options can you choose another protocol other than TCP or UDP, or select a protocol number instead of port?
