Hi,

I have a customer which requires us to connect to the IPO through ISDN. I know this is an ancient method but they have such a secure network we cannot access it.

This is not something I have done before and I was hoping someone could send me a link to the equipment required to connect to their IPO over the ISDN. There is ISDN at both sites and I was wondering if someone could shed some light on what you have to do to connect to the system once the equipment has been installed.

Thanks in advance,

It's already setup by default on the system, you just need an ISDN TA/modem and ISDN lines in your office, then create a new dial up connection using the windows new connection wizard. It authenticates against the RemoteManager account in the IP Office (that has the alarm against it when it's a new system, asking you to change the password) :)

Ancient method?

this i how I connect to the majority of my customers & is still my preferred method as it mean I do not need to play about with multiple different VPN solutions (some of which are incompatible with each other) depending on the whim of the customer.

Ok thanks, should the Draytek miniVigor128 USB ISDN Terminal Adapter do the job?

I take it I would need one for each site. The only issue is they have no pc at the other site to power the adapter through the USB?

No you only need one for yourself
the IPOffice will route an ISDN data call to its internal router & enable you to set up a connection.

on the IPO you need a data user (Remote Manager By default)
an Incoming route for data calls ( Any data dall on any number) routing to DialIn
an IP route to Remote Manager (192.168.99.1 by default) for your originating IP address, unless your system has DHCP enabled.

on your computer you simply Configure Dial up networking to call the customers number, with the correct user-name & password & set the IP address for the connection.

From the customer's view it is more insecure of you dial in via ISDN than connecting through VPN. If you dial in through ISDN you control the connection. If you use VPN the customer can control what you have access to.

^^ That's what I was thinking too.

Sounds like the customer doesn't know much about security, or they have an ancient policy in place.

Thanks very much for all the help here. Can I just confirm, does the customer need a ddi for you to be able to connect to the system or can you enter through the main number?

no the customer does not need a DDI. It comes in on the main number and uses 1 line
DO NOT UPGRADE through dial in
always do a fresh dial in a few minutes after you do a reboot

JUST INCASE YOU DIDNT KNOW...

Hi, I had to buy a PC with XP especially to do this as the Vigor TA only has drivers for XP or windows 95.

I have installed the software and made the above amendments to the IPO config.

I have loaded the Vigor 128 software on the pc.

Please could someone advise what I need to do next to connect to the IPO. There are a few options on the PC, ISDN test, kiosk ect

If someone could help that is familiar with the Vigor 128 that would be great.
