I'm trying to connect to the console port on Cisco 7200 series router. So far all I get is a couple junk characters when I power on the router. So I think I've got the terminal end configured right I'm wondering if this could be hardware problem?

Emulation issues? Did you trying using the AUX port and or trying to telnet into the router to access programming to verify the console port? “Reserve your right to think, for even to think wrongly is better than not to think at all”

I had the same issue with a 3640...Found that using the AUX port worked... AJ

Check your terminal's baud rate.

Perhaps the router is configured with one different from your terminal and that's why (as I've seen before) strange/junk-like characters appear on screen.

cheers,
