I'm studying for my CCNP and bought a 1600 router to practise some commands. having a problem with connecting to it.
My laptop has only a DB25 port (female)..
CISCO console cable came with a DB25 (female)
I'm using a DB 25 Gender convertor (staight through) to connect these two.
I'm using Hyperterminal with
Bit 9600
Data bit : 8
Parity : none
Stop bits: 1
Flow control : None

but I'm still unable to connect. do you have any clue why this is not working. I have tried with two routers and two laptops to see whether there's something wrong with the equipments. but I don't thing so. if you think you can help me with this, I really appriciate it.

Thanks in advance.

that not a comm port, sound like a lpt port on your laptop. you have to get a usb to comm port converter.
