Hi all,
I have a SQL2K desktop editions on two separate PCs networked together using Ethernet. Problem is, I can't connect either of SQL2K to another one to do data transfer. Network drives are mapped, on SQL2K TCP/IP is enabled using 1433 port as well as NetBeu. It just doesn't see another SQL2K and I don't know what else to do. Any ideas?
Thanks much.

Steve

When you say it does not see another SQL2K, from which tool? Is it Enterprise MAnager or Query Analyzer?
Try connecting by IP address and not Compuert NAme. More is SQL2K installed as a named instance? If it is make sure to indicate the full instance name and not just the server name!

I tried with Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer. It says specified SQL server doesn't exist. I tried using instance name, computer name, computer + instance name, IP address, IP + instance name. No luck. Maybe my network is not configured right, but it's working fine and I'm able to map another PC and browse all content from remote machine.

It definitely is a netwrok problem. Check your IP configuration on the client and the server. Check that they are on the same subnet and that the default or manual router,if any, is setup correctly.
Make sure that SQL server accepts coonection through IP and NetBEUI. Check that the DNS server has the correct record for the sql serevr. Sometimes if DNS has a record for the sql server and the sql server machine's IP address has been changed , the DNS server may not pickup the new IP address due to the way DNS is setup to accept dynamic address resolution. More, if you are using WINS check that it is running..

Please try to check the "SQL Server Network Utility" to see whether you have to enable the TCPIP or not. Also, make sure the port 1433 is not blocked.
