I have a graphite imac, my old apple personal LW NTR is still connected to my old computer, because I cannot get it to work on the i mac. I bought a KEYSPAN adaptor to plug in the printer cable therefore enabling it tobe connected to the usb port. But.
1. It does not show in the chooser
2. Appletalk on the imac is only ethernet or remote (no printer port as older machine, so they show no devices connected
3. I loaded a software “lazer prep 7.1.2” from the apple website, hoping to cure the problem. This did not work.
4. I looked onto the apple site further (hours in fact) and found one piece of information on a download “local talk" which would enable older printers to be seen in the chooser, but they only listed the G3, and certain other machines and said this software would not work on any of the others (imac was not there).

What am I doing wrong, can anyone please help I cannot afford another printer and my old mac is having problems I will not be able to print from it soon. I am also tired of putting info onto a zip disc and reopening etc on the old computer.

I really wish I had a Mac so I could tell you what to do. Too bad the printer doesnt have an ethernet port so you just throw it on a hub. Have you checked with/emailed the manufactures of your adaptor? They are more likely to get back to you than apple.

Well, I looked at the Keyspan site and it sounds fine, I do have a twin keyspan and it is plugged into No.1. Only on all macs its not the chooser (as they say) that shows the printer ports. It is in Appletalk in the control panels. I know my old computer had as well as “ethernet” a switch over to “printer port” capability, but on my imac it only shows “ethernet” and “remote” I presume the remote is for the internal modem. So its not to clear what keyspan are trying to say.
Thank you for your help though.
