How can connect a computer to a hub that is more then 400’ from the hub? I know that the maximum distance for Cat5 is 328’; can I put a hub or a switch in the middle of the run to increase the distance? The hub in question is a 16 port 10 BaseT and it is connected to the LAN via fiber. I need to connect one very old computer as cheaply as possible.

Yes you can as long as it is a active hub or a switch.

Have fun
Hope this Helps

Yeah - pop another hub in the sequence and it becomes a bridge of sorts, or a repeater. You can piggy back 3 of these at most. Either that or move your computer closer, that would be cheapest! -= Beer is food! Is it suppertime? =-

You can use another hub but i'd use a switch only because a hub can lock and is more likely to drop packets...but if its an old systems and not mission critical a hub is probably the way to go...

...the higher the fewer
