We have two companies under the same roof. Two different AD forrests and two different mail domains.

We share information back and forth and would like to connect our two Exchange 2003 Servers so that any mail sent from us to them or vice versa is sent directly to the other Exchange Server instead of through the Internet. Is this doable in Exchange?

Thanks for any help and insight. it will be greatly appreciated.

Without knowing much about the size of each forest, dns servers, subnetting, security issues of separate companies etc, one way to try may be to set up conditional DNS forwarders in each forests windows 2003 DNS servers (assuming win2k3 here) to the other forests.

In the conditional forwarder, configure each forest to point to the other forest domain name and its DNS servers.

This should allow the resolution of the separate forests behind your firewall. I am not 100% sure if you will need to create SMTP connectors to route the mail between the domains.

You may need to create MX records (if you haven't already) for each forest. This is a suggestion for mail delivery only as personally I have never had this issue.

If you want to share GAL and public folder information across separate forests then you are looking at a whole different ball game. This will be quite complicated. I have been working on a very large migration from Groupwise to Exchange that involves separate forests.

Hope this is a start for you. Good luck
