My boss (owner) purchased another company and wants to keep the companies separate. Both companies are on the same WAN and can ping each other. 1 is exchange 5.5 and the other is exchange 2000. I need to just be able to send mail between the 2. I don't need to synchronize the address lists. They do not have the same organizations.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

I would recommend creating a site connector. While this will result in directory replication, it is the most efficient method for exchanging mail between the two servers (pardon the unintended pun). Of course I'm not sure how you create site connectors between the two versions of Exchange, but your Exchange 2000 documentation should explain the process.

I don't understand why you wouldn't want to replicate the address lists between the two servers, since it's clear that there is likely to be a considerable amount of communication between the two companies.

My understanding was that a site connector could only exist when the exchange servers are in the same organization, which these are not.
