SUBJECT : Configuring Win 2K Active Directory from Win Nt 4 Workstation

Dear All,
is it possible to control and configure our Win 2k Server active directory from a NT 4 workstation.

I'd like to setup a roaming admin user that our technicians can use to reset passwords etc...

Any suggestions?

I have tried connecting to usrmgr.exe in the winnt\system32
on the server1 I get the error:

usrmgr.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point DsGetDcNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library NETAPI32.dll

Any Suggestions

can you run it locally on that workstation? I'm assuming you're also logged in as an admin?

You can use terminal services to do this.

To run it locally, you'd need to copy the files over to your workstations system32. I think it's usrmgr.exe, usrmgr.cnt and a HELP file.
As imatthec says, terminal services allows your workstation to log onto the DC in a console window as if you're actually there. The installer is called TSCLIENT and I believe you can download it from MS site. It's an excellent suggestion, assuming you don't have any issue with these folks logging onto your DC.

I have got usrmgr to run locally but it pops up the error, it can't configure domains about win 2k.

I thought this was correct as our DC using Win 2K Server and Active Directory.

Any other suggestions?

I will have to investigate TSCLIENT when I have more time.

just curious, try running usrmgr from a command line using one of your servers as the domain name. That is, try this from a prompt:
USRMGR \\SOME-MEMBER-SERVER

see if that works.

did you copy over the NETAPI32.DLL file to your workstation's system32 from the DC?

Terminal services can be setup from add/remove programs - windows components.
