IP Office 500 v2, R8.1(85), POTS lines, and CA buttons. I've got a site in a large metro area with numerous area codes, and the site isn't sure which ones require a 1 first and which ones don't, and they're tired of getting it wrong. How do you configure the IPO to add a 9,1 to all outgoing calls so that the dialer can just dial the number and not have to worry which one needs a 1 and which one doesn't? I assume it's a combination of the ARS table and short codes, but am not sure. Or if there's a better solution, what is it? Thanks in advance for your help.

You just need to add a 1 in the ARS telephone number field.

Code: 555xxxxxxx
Telephone Number: 1555N
Feature: dial
Line Group ID: X

Because you're in the US, and it seems that you also want to bypass dialing 9 before the 1 and just dial 10 digits for ALL calls, THIS will do what you want

I'm revisiting this thread again, as the issue has come up at one of our CA sites that is having issues with the system dialing a 949 exchange. Thanks to all for your replies. TTT, I assume I'd have to enter all of the ARS and User Rights short codes from that link? In addition, I'd have to add the "special consideration" for the 949 area code since it's a 7-digit dialer? From the link:

Code: 949XXXXXXX;
Telephone Number: N
Feature: Dial 3K1
Line Group ID: 0

Code: 49XXXXXXX;
Telephone Number: N
Feature: Dial 3K1
Line Group ID: 0

Are there any other area codes in CA that may fall under special considerations? I may as well take care of it now.

Be very careful as the pbx will insert the 91 then a user dial 1 area code and number and now is connected to the 911 center so user training will be needed if you go this route!

Ok, thanks. To add to this, the customer doesn't want to dial the 1949 at all - they say they didn't have to on their old system, but have to on the IP Office. If this was the only area code that they shouldn't have to dial the 1+area code for, couldn't I create an ARS short code of:

Code = XXXXXXXN
Feature = Dial3k1
Telephone Number = 1916N
Line Group ID = 0

If that's not correct, what would be the correct short code to have the system dial the 1+area code for the site?

Sorry - should read:

Code = XXXXXXXN
Feature = Dial3k1
Telephone Number = 1949N
Line Group ID = 0

Or do I have it backwards and it should be:

Code = 1949N
Feature - Dial3k1
Telephone Number - XXXXXXXN
Line Group ID = 0

-Do I need the "N" at the end of the XXXXXXX?

will not work I am afraid and I would like to see what system they had before that automatically knew if they want to dial an exchange 212 or are code 212 for NY city. So 212-1234 as a local number vs 212-123-4567 in NY or many other exchanges that are the same as a local exchange.

Tell them that this is the IP Office and not their old system. Could their old system do database lookups, vm to email, cell phone dialing via one-x portal, twinning, etc etc etc?
if yes put the old one back if not tell them to start dialing the area code and Shut up refrain from complaining.

you could give them a single system shortcode
N;
Dial
N
line ID

then it will dial whatever they dial on any phone without restriction of any number. If you send this to the ARS then you can filter for 1900 and so on to make sure they don't dial that.
Like this

N;
Dial
N
ARS

To your question about the "N"
the X's mean a defined number of digits, the N means any number of digits until you are done dialing and the dial delay timer in the system settings is run out, so yes you need the N otherwise you can only dial 7 digits all the time.
