We are trying to configure a Sonicwall VPN Client to tunnel back to a Sonicwall XPRS2. The remote location has the VPN client version 8.0 and is connected to a Linksys 4 port router then to a DSL modem which is an Alcatel Speed Touch Home DSL Modem.

Using the Group VPN and pre-shared key, I cannot establish a tunnel or receive a reply to a ping to the internal IP address of the Sonicwall XPRS2 back at the office.

Has anyone had success in configuring a Sonicwall VPN client behind a linksys router?

Thanks,
Richard

Yes, configuration should work. With latest Linky firmware you can establish even more than one tunnel simultaneously.

Did you create the setup-file for client by using SonicWALL.

There are two documents for this in SW site, other for FW 5.x and another for 6.x, did you use the correct one?

Pls check the logs of the client and box for error messages.

Thanks for the replies...The Linksys BEFSR41 with the latest firmware is IPSEC compliant. It seems that the new firmware has a setting to Block WAN requests. This was enabled. Once I disabled this I was able to establish a tunnel using the VPN Client. One caveat though. The performance over a DSL line using the VPN Client versus a Sonicwall router to router config is dramatically different. The router to router configuration is so much faster and more reliable that it makes it appear as though you were on the LAN, not the WAN.

Why not trade in BEFSR41 for BEFVP41. VPN-router is compatible with Sonic ( FW 6.x up ) from dynamic or static address. No speed issues.

Just replaced USD 2000 busted Sonic with USD 150 Linky last night. 5 minutes after the tunnel works flawlessly against another Sonic.

markku,

What are the specific settings you took on the BEFVP41 to make the sonicwall and linky tunnel and play nice with each other?

Thanks,
Richard

I would like to know how to setup the Linksys BEFSR41 to work with sonicWall VPN client. I have updated to the latest firmware and have had enable the WAN request but not luck.
If I connect my computer directly to the cable modem, it works fine.
Thanks

Hi Richard,

You need the latest Beta-firmware for BEFVP41. Drop me a line and I will post it to you. markku@welcomnet.fi

Anybody had success in configuring a VPN tunnel between a Sonicwall VPN appliance and the new linksys BEFSX41 VPN device? If so, could you provide some advice on settings. Thanx . . .
