I need help. I am trying to configure a Cisco 2514 as a firewall. A client is currently using a small firewall, but has outgrown it. I have a 2514 I want to use, but I don't know if it will work. I am using AUI 0 and AUI 1 with CAT-5 transceivers as Ethernet 0 and 1. Ethernet 0 is the WAN port, and Ethernet 1 is the LAN port. I am using IOS 11.2. The three questions I have are:

1) Can I force Ethernet 1 to accept a class C subnet address on a class A ip address, 10.0.0.10 255.255.255.0 (That's the client's IP scheme)?

2) How do I add the WAN DNS entries in Ethernet 0 like I would a firewall?

3) How do I add the WAN gateway in Ethernet 0 like I would a Firewall?

Any help I could get in doing this will be greatly appreciated as I haven't ever done this and google hasn't produced any results yet.

Thanks,

Hank Lambert, CCNA

I'm guessing no one has any help/suggestions?

No, we are not doing NAT on this router. Actually, I have question 2 & 3 figured out, question 1 is the only one I am still having problems with. The client is using a Class A address, 10.0.0.X with a class C subnet mask, 255.255.255.0. When I try to add that combination to Ethernet 1 (the LAN side), I get an error that says "Bad mask /24". How can I apply that IP/Mask combination on that ethernet port?

Thanks,

Hank

Type in "no ip subnet-zero" at the enable (#) prompt.
