I have a 3500XL Switch, with Keepalive on 10 seconds. I have an embedded TCP device, that the comm's shut down. I want to see if the Switch Port shuts down if the device stops communicating. The device is electrically active, LINK LIGHT ON, NO ACTIVITY, but there is not communications happening (Won't respond to PING, or ARP). Should the port shut down? How long should it stay down? Is that a setting?

Thank you for helping.

The keepalive is purely a layer-2 setting to make sure the interface is physically up. If the attaced device's Ethernet interface is physically connected then the interface will be up as far as the switch port is concerned - most ATX PC's do this due to the PCI bus having power and powering the NIC when the PC is off but power is connected.

You will need to look at alternative ways around your issue. If you can explain a bit more about what you are trying to achieve then there may be a simple solution.
