hi, i just got a cisco 2610 and was planning to use that as my router to share my cable internet. Can anyone help me out. I am starting from scratch.

TIA!

TIA,

IS this a 2610 or a 2610XM the reason I ask is because the older 2610 have a 10-meg (ethernet) only interface. the newer 2610XM's have a 100-meg (fast ethernet) interface.

Unless you have some other method to connect to your router you will need a way to have 2 ethernet interfaces on that router.

What I mean is one interface must be connected to the internet and a second interface must connect to your local lan. This can be done with one physical interface but you will need to use a switch and configure trunking to your router or something.

(internet)--(E0/0)-RouterA-(E0/1)---(LAN)--Home PC's

or if you configure trunking

(internet)--(F0/0.1-RouterA-(F0/0.2)--(Lan)--Home PC's

later-
