Conference Calling from Analog line? - IP406 2

ok, this may seem like a silly question. Can you make a conference call on an analog line on an IP Office 406 system running 5.0(18)? We have an Avaya B169 conference phone (with DECT 1.2 base station) that is in place and works fine on the analog line. For some reason, I have always thought you could not make conference calls on an analog line, but then I got to wondering why the conference calling features. The extension is the standard configuration. When I try the conference feature, it lets me get another dial tone but when i try to conference them together, it just starts a fast busy beep.

I thinking that maybe its a licensing issue, or maybe I have to get a base station that connects to the digital port line.

If by "an analogue line" you mean you only have one, then it's impossible to conference another external call in, no matter what system you have

Sorry if I made it a little more confusing that it should have been. The DECT base station that the B169 phone syncs to, is connection to an analog extension off of a ANALOG POTS8V2 expansion unit. The 406 has (1) PRI for inbound/outbound calls.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if I need to use a IP-DECT base station. If so, I don't know why they would sell it with the analog extension version.

The B169 is wireless. Without the base station it wouldn't work. The base station is then plugged into the IP Office analog extension. You can indeed conference using that unit and a PRI. You can press the conference button and then *47 to join each party called from the B169.

To elaborate on the procedure that Telecomboy mentioned
call one party
press the conference button (you should hear a dialtone)
call the second party
press the conference button again (you should hear another dialtone)
dial *47
you hear the beep and all are happily joined together

Westi and Telecomboy: Thank you very much!! It worked! I guess the "conference together" button on the phone doesn't emulate *47, but when I dialed it manually, it worked.

You have to configure the "conference together" button since the code for conferencing calls will vary, as will other things like recall time, etc.

Set the Flash Hook Time
The B149 and B159 analog phones need to use a flash hook time in the same range as that being used by the IP Office. That default values the IP Office uses depend on its system locale, refer to the "IP Office Locale Settings Reference" manual. However, individual extensions can be configured separately (see Extension | Analogue | Flash Hook Pulse Width). The setting can be tested by making a call to another extension during which pressing b100_off_hook_button should toggle the call on hold and back if the flash hook time is set correctly.

To set the flash hook time:
1. Press the b100_menu_button Menu button.
2. Scroll to SETTINGS and press OK.
3. Scroll to FLASH and press OK.
4. Select a value that falls in the range set in the IP Office configuration for the extension and press OK.
5. To exit the menus, press b100_menu_button Menu again. To exit the current menu option, press b100_back_button.


Set the Conference Codes
The phones need to be configured with a number of conference codes. The main conference code required is one to conference the phones current and held calls. This needs to be set to match a conference add short code on the IP Office system (the default system short code is *47).

1.Press the b100_menu_button Menu button.
2.Scroll to CONF GUIDE and press OK.
3.Scroll to SETTINGS and press OK.
4.At the ENQUIRY prompt enter F and OK. Enter F by pressing the b100_off_hook_button key. Backspace by pressing b100_back_button.
5.At the CONFERENCE prompt enter F and the IP Office conference add short code, for example F*47. Press OK.
6.At the RETURN prompt enter F and press OK.
7.To exit the menus, press b100_menu_button Menu again. To exit the current menu option, press b100_back_button.
