When I try to set this up i get an error of
"the server forwarder can not be updated, a zone configuration problem accurred"

thay are both dc's

any help would be appreciatted

Off the top of my head... I do not think that you can set up forwarders between DNS servers that are in the same forrest sharing the same namespace. If fact I don't believe you should have to set up fowarders in this environment. The DNS servers are aware of who is authoritaive for each zone. Sorry I could not give you more detail why...
Maybe some else with more knowledge regarding DNS within child domains will chim in.

I believe what you want to do is to delegate the abc.xyz.mycompany.org to a different DNS server for resolution. To do that you need to put an NS (Name Server) record in the DNS server that is authoritative for xyz.mycompany.org. Add the following record to you xyz.mycompany.org DNS server.

Abc IN NS xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ( this is the address where you want queries for abc.xyz.mycompany.org to be resolved).
