OK, this has got to be one of the weirdest things I have seen in Access.

I have a subform, where all the controls are (with the exception of a command button for each record) are locked and not enabled. This all works fine.

I then added conditional formatting to the subform, and those records that dont meet the conditional formatting are still locked and not enabled, but all the records that do meet the conditional formatting are not locked and are enabled!

Somehow, conditional formatting takes away locking and disabling of controls. Anyone else seen this before?

In your conditional formattings the Activate format parameter seems to be checked (depressed).

Hope This Helps, PH.

How are ya JonoB . . . .

Are the controls locked/disabled by default in design view?

Just what is your criteria for unlocking?

OK, answers to your questions:

-the controls are all disabled by default in design view.
-The conditional formatting works 100%

Only problem is that all controls that meet the conditional formatting become enabled.

As I said before, weird.

[blue]PHV[/blue] could very well be right! Hope ya checked his suggestion out!

In any case, post the actual Conditional Format [blue]criteria[/blue]. Only way we can tell for sure . . . .

At the same time, just what is the criteria for enabling controls?

Ahhhhh, I get it.

Damn, thats just plain dumb of me. I had always thought that the "Enabled" button was meant to enable the conditional format (i.e. set it to active), rather than enable the actual control!

Sorry for that, but thanks for the help!

yeah, in Access 2k the Conditional Formatting tool is screwed up. it appears the TRUE condition inherits the FALSE settings (for enabling, colors, but NOT for Bold, Italic), however, mine is working (background fill) despite the appearance that it will not...
maybe i need to get SP3...

How are ya KevCon . . . . .

I've used conditional formatting quite a bit (2K also) and have used all its features without a hitch . . . never a problem. Could you be more specific about this?
