Conditional Formating

In Excel 2000, I am trying to highlight a cell based on the value of another cell.

Example:

cell A1 will be highlighted (regardless of the value within it) if cell a6 is not null (or empty).

I can use conditional formatting for values contained in a cell but can't find where to set it up from different cells like in the above example.

Under Format, Conditional formating change to formula is and then for me to A3 if C3 is not blank I would put in =c3<>"" and apply the formatting. In this case my active cell was A3.

Okay that works great! on a single cell. How can I apply it to the whole column without doing it cell by cell? The relationship will be
a3 to c3
a4 to c4
a5 to c5 etc.......

Highlight the entire column, then follow xlhelp's instructions.
