Conditional format not working 1

In Excel 2003 I am trying to do a simple alternate line color with "FORMULA IS" and "=MOD(ROW(),2)"

This throws a error and highlights the ",2"
I have tried typing the data in manually and also tried cut and paste from various help sites.

What am I doing wrong?

Strange, just tried it, and worked fine. What "Throws an error" do you get?
Only thing I can think of is if it is putting " markes in your formula, try deleting them.

I type or paste in =MOD(ROW(),2)
and windows returns

The formula you typed contains an error

When I click ok my formula has the ,2 highlighted.

do your regional setting support SEMICOLON ( rather than COMMA (,) for separators?
