I have a recent fresh install of W2K server running a network of about 20 clients. It acts as DC, DNS, DHCP and AD for the network. I am getting a regular error in the event log that states the following:

Event ID 5513 - The computer name <computer name> connected to server <name> using the trust relationship to the <name> domain. However, the computer doesn't properly know the security identifier (SID) for the domain. Reestablish the trust relationship.

This error shows up throughout the day, even when users are gone at night.

I found an online tip that told me to reset the machine account using active directory. However under ADUC none of my client machines are listed under Computers. Prior to the install I remember the machines were listed here. I am wondering why they are not and if this is related to the error I am getting in the event log.

So my questions are:
1. Aren't my machines supposed to show up in the Computers folder under AD?
2. What is causing my 5513 event?

Thanks

I answered my own question so I will post the resolution. Turns out the client machines were not added because that only occurs automatically when clients are added to a domain. Because I was doing a reinstall of an existing server they never went through the process that would normally occur in a new domain. I had shut them all off prior to the server reinstall and then simply booted them back up once it was up and running.

To fix the error I was getting in the event log I just added each client machine name manually to the Computer folder under ADUC.

I also found that if the machine is already listed in AD, but you are still getting the error message you can reestablish the trust relationship by right-clicking the machine and selecting Reset Account.
