I woke up this morning and started to make breakfast, all of a sudden i heard the windows startup music. i was like hmmm.. did i turn my computer on?, i thought., am i losing my mind?? so i walked into my computer room and the computer was turned on with the windows desktop on my monitor. i was absolutly confused. how in the heck did my computer turn on by itself?

ps: i am using windows xp.

thanks

Maybe you have a ghost ? LOL

Haven't used Win XP much, but maybe it has an automatic wake up thing? Maybe you BIOS has a wake up thing?

Still think its the first one though LOL

Nothing in win xp would make you computer turn on by itself if it is powered off. Are you sure that when you turn your computer off using the power button it is not going into standby instead of turning off completely?

I have seen one that was in sleep mode and had a bad power connector so the connection would break and remake quickly. The computer saw this as an on pulse.

When you shut down, do you turn off your supply at the wall socket or just allow the system to "soft-off?" If the first, then, as thatrenowned suggested, you have a ghost (or a failing memory). If the latter, check your power management setting for "Wake-On ...." events.
