I am not sure if this is the correct forum, if it isn't please point to the correct one.

I have finished editing a video I captured from my VCR using Pinnacle Studio 9. Its all done I just want to create a DVD which I have successfully done with a smaller file (only a 25min video). This video is a full DVD, I guess about 1h 30min. About an hour into creating the DVD my computer just turns off. I have also tried just creating a .MPEG file and I get the same result, computer turning off.

Thanks,
Matt

Does it turn off or restart the PC?

it could be a heat issue.... GFX card or CPU overheating...
in that case make sure that the PC gets enough airflow...

it turns off and does not restart. I am planning on using a program to monitor the temp. of the cpu.

Try opening the case and putting a fan nearby to blow air into the case.

OK I've run MSI's PC Alert 4 and it says that my cpu temp is 64.0 c and sys temp is 46.0 c. CPU fan is running at 2500

64 C is pretty high...

check your BIOS setting on the Temp cutoff level...

another suggestion.... I know it is Autumn, but a little spring-cleaning of the inside of the PC, might be in order here...

Dust build up on the HS-Fan can cause an overheating CPU real quick, and the PC shutting off, usually is an indication of bad airflow...

Post your entire system specs (CPU, IDE/SATA configuration, video card, power supply brand/watts, etc).

I'm willing to bet the problem is an underpowered system, or faulty power supply. Just shutting off usually points to that. Overheating can also cause it, but most of the time the system will restart and the BIOS will trigger a beep code to make you aware. That's why I'm leaning towards the PSU here.

One thing here that nobody has mentioned as of yet is the power savings settings. RIGHT-CLICK on blank area of desktop, click on Properties, then select SCREEN SAVER, and then finally MONITOR POWER.. there are a series of menus under the monitor power (NOT your PC monitor or LCD), that control how long your computer sits idle, and what will shut down once those settings have been reached. If you are not moving your mouse at all while the video is burning then the counter IS counting down, and if its set to shut down, then your PC will shut down. there is also a bios setting too accessed at bootup via your bios settings.
