Anyone know of a company or organization that will come to our office in Santa Monica (Los Angeles County) and pick up our old computer and network equipment. Be a shame to throw away hardware but we can't use it and we're moving to a place that just doesn't have enough storage for it. Goodwill doesn't do pickups.

Call your local public school system. They could probably use all the equipment they can get.

There are lots of organizations or companies the deal in used computers
Have a look in your Ph book or ask around at some of the computer shops around town

Leave it on the curb overnight (with a free sign on it).
Tell the janitors or the cleaning company they can have it if they'll get it out of your office.

It's 10 O'Clock ( somewhere! ).
Are your registry and data backed up?

Salvation Army and some veterans related thriftshops may do pickups.

If only I wasnt 1500 miles away, I would be all over that. Gas is a bit too expensive for a reasonable cost/benefit ratio to exist. BUT, here's an idea in 3 easy steps:

1) Chain the equipment to a parking meter or light post(make it look like you want to keep it).
2) Wait it 3-4 hours.
3) Retrieve cut chain and lock for future use.

OR you could always find a church group to donate to...

Good luck,

I guess no one has any real answers here. I mean there are companies that buy old equipment and break it down into individual components either for reuse or recycling. I've read about them, but don't know of any.

By the way, if I tell the janitorial staff to take whatever old equipment they'd like, I'm likely to come in the morning and find half my good equipment missing as well.

Have you checked crc.org? I haven't looked recently at what they take, but they do pickups (notsure about limits on locations or anything). Probably worth contacting. Even if they aren't willing to pick up based on distance or anything like that, they may have some good pointers on other places to go.

packdragon: You got several GOOD answers in there. Perhaps they weren't the ones you were looking for.

Why don't you post the products that you have on a IT tradesite, such as powersource, tradeloop, itxmarket, etc. They tend to have companies listed which could be interested..

Just an idea.

Good idea rotaman. I'll try to remember it for future reference. The problem is our lease is up by the end of this week and we have to be outta here. So there's no time to post things. But I'll give you a star for giving me names.

You can post these things on several of those sites, they usually give you a trial so you can benefit from full service during a week or so. Try to go on one of them, and post your stock as a take all deal or something, you should find someone to buy it from ya. Thanks for the star, i hope it helps you get rid of your gear:)
