i have the majicjack devise but ive heard of a similar devise that connects to the modem alowing it to work when pc is off. does anyone know what it is called?
thanks:suzzie

That would have to be regular telephone service. When the PC is off and a phone is connected to the PHONE side of the modem, a regular phone can use the line instead of the modem dialing out to the internet.

Unless I'm missing something new or don't understand your question.

I think she's referring to a network phone as in Voice over IP (VoIP).

The modem is likely her DSL or cable modem not an actual telephone modem.

With that said Googling "VoIP network Phones" should yield some results.

Alternatively posting the forum462 may also provide more specific answers.

That would make much more sense.

Modem - as in dial up telephony modem

vs.

Modem connected to internet or DSL service.
