My computer is not reporting the correct CPU Speed.

I should have 1700 Athlon XP. The system states 1100 Athlon XP.

How do you change it back? Sounds like something in the Bios setting.

2nd? How did it change to 1100?

OK, first where are you seeing the speed reported? BIOS, Windows, etc?

Use a tool like Belarc Advisor to grab the specs of your system and post the results here. (You can get BA at
It sounds like the frontside bus speed in the BIOS is set wrong. It should be set to the max your CPU supports (probably 266MHz which is really 133MHz doubled). Don't change it though until you're sure, or you might cause damage.

An AMD XP1700+ CPU has an actual clock speed of 1.47hz
Your front side bus has just defaulted to 100 when it should be 133.
You might want to change the lithium button battery just in case it's causing the board to loose it's settings.
These are about £2 or $3.50US I guess.

BIOS went back to default, 100 speed. Open BIOS, set CPU and mem to 133. You should be OK.

This is exactly what happened.

One day, my bios went to default

I guess batteries do not last like they use to.
