We have a network of some 150 users and all of the computers are allocated names (linked to their users' name). Every pc has one allocated and there are no problems but one! One of our users has (we believe) been messing around with the pc configuration(all users have administrative rights on their own pc). Now she has a name that is gobbledigook, and she has complained to our helpdesk. I went into her local computer and into the network ID popup, and tried to change it back to her name to no avail, also I tried to rename it under the properties button but it too said that there was a conflict on the network with the name, that there is not. I tried a no. of names (all nice of course) and nothing will overwrite this name.

Any ideas?

Right click on My Computer go to Properties. Next click on Network Identification and go to properties. You should be able to change it there. If that does not work let us know

Very typical problem, sometime the naming gets screwed up when using domain. 100% fix -> 1) Log on administrator to local machine (not domain), 2) change to a workgroup (made up name is fine), 3) Reboot computer, 4) Rename Computer as U usually would, 5) Reboot, 6) assume correct place within your given Domain.

Have fun! -md

Sorry, I already tried that and no luck, it says that there is a network conflict with the name.

Thanx,

It worked like a dream....
