computer management / session logging help

On my 2000 server I'd like to be able to log or keep track of which users log on and off, and when. Ideally I'd like to see what time someone logged on, when they logged off, how long idle times were and the number of open files. Can it be done without expensive 2nd party apps?

log on/ log off. Done with auditing.

Rest of it - no idea. Have a look in auditing.
