I'm building a computer from spare parts and I need to change the CPU setting in the BIOS (It is a ABIT TX5 "soft switch" motherboard - so there are no jumpers(you must configure it all in the BIOS))
The Problem is that whenever I try to save settings and exit the BIOS, the computer won't restart as it is normally supposed to; Rather it must be turned of and on by toggling the power switch or by pressing the reset button. When I press the reset button it doesn't save the BIOS settings that I changed.
I don't know what the problem is but I took a multi-meter and put one of the leads in the ground wire of the P8 connector (the connector from the power supply to the motherboard) and the other lead in the +12 volt wire of the P9 connector. When I pressed the Power button the voltage that I measured was 12.15v to 12.20v but when the BIOS tried to restart the computer the reading on the multi-meter dropped to 12.08v and stayed there and the computer didn't turn back on (although the hard drive spun and the CPU fan stayed on.
I don't know if that means anything, but I am stumped. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much
