Computer Comments and DNS

1. Where do I enter Computer comments for computers. When I browse Network Neighborhood, I see the computers and want to have a comment to describe them.

2. If I don't enter my DNS server statically on my NIC, I get errors in event log, "Windows cannot determine user or computername, Event ID 1000" If I enter it statically, it goes away. Is everyone out there entering their DNS server statically? I have DHCP setup and have the DNS server there as preferred. Any other way around it? I have been fighting this error for weeks now and I don't get it.

The answer to question #1 can be found in a FAQ I published in the W2K Pro area - > faq616-219.

As far as the second question, is the static DNS entry the same as the entry being provided by DHCP? If you run IPCONFIG /ALL are the entries present and correct? Are we talking about server or workstation here?

We are talking W2K Adv. Server and W2K Pro desktops. The desktops are getting the errors (but not all of them for some reason). Yes, after running IPCONFIG, all the correct entries are there, the only thing I have done is through DHCP, I have entered my DNS server (private) as the primary and my ISP (public) as secondary. Netdiag comes clean on server and workstations.
I have been testing this for weeks now. I have a few machines getting everything from DHCP(including DNS) that have no errors, they have been clean for weeks. I have a few other machines setup same as above, getting the errors.
Finally I have a few machines with static DNS with no errors. Frustrating....

All machines have latest service packs also.

All computers are running SP2....is everyone entering their DNS servers staticly on users machines??

Any ideas?
