We are currently running an Ericsson MD110 group switch connected to two LIMs, each via 30 channel megastreams. We need to increase the capacity on these to 60 channels but the lengths of the runs means purchasing additional megastreams is just too expensive.

What sort of options are available to us?

Has anyone tried using compression hardware, if so, what?

Hi

You cannot use compression just like that.
MD or Mxone TSW need to have some Time Slots not compressed for loading, backup, data transfer and data calls.
This mean that you need to specify some TS to support this traffic with the command GJTSC and dedicate LBDC option.
Then you can look at some material such as HL950 from Ericsson or Vmux from RAD.

An other option is to migrate the PCM lines over IP if your customer has a WAN/MAN/LAN already running between your 2 LIMs location.

Best regards

Currently on BC11 but just about to upgrade to BC13
