Compiler freezes

Hello,

I am using VC 6.0 and 1 time out of 2 when I compile my code the comiler freezes (in the middle of the process) and I need to close VC using ALT+CTL+DEL. It happens even with the smallest programs that don't even have any #include statement. Of course I tried reinstalling (I did a clean install) but it didn't work. I am using windows xp pro. VC 6 comes from Visual studio 6.

What is going on??

Do you have the latest service pack installed? I used that product for years on multiple OS's. There was an occasional compile time lock up it was very rare though.
