I have a F80 and a SSA card. I would like to know if they are compatable...is there a IBM website to mix-match this?

what is the 2 digit # on the back of the card.

Wow! good post

Don't think this SSA will fit in my F80.

Also, I have couple of hdisks laying around, will they work with the F80?

I do not know how I got F50 from F80 but atleast you have what you needed. Thanks for the star.

What are the drive #'s, model etc?

Model: DPSS-318350

Its a 18.2GB HD

BTW, I already have 2 Hdisks installed in the f80. I want to add another 2 more.

Is that possible?

A 4-N adapter should work fine in an F80.

Download this book:
It tells you which adapter should be in which of the available slots for the different type servers.

On p. 31 it says that there can be up to 6 4-N adapters in an F80 and you have a choice of 10 different slots...

If you know how, you can even hot-plug it if getting the machine powered of is not an option.

Good post! Thanks for the page number too. How do I know what PCI slot is which?

I am not too sure if it has enough slots.

Is that possible?

F80 has 14 disk bays and 3 media bays I believe. Don't know by heart if your disk DPSS-318350 can be mounted in one of the disk bays - perhaps it needs to fitted in a module that fits the disk bays - a question of getting the power and data connectors interfaced between disk bay and disk drive.

Power off and open up the server. If the free disk you have is the same part number as the ones already mounted, then go for it. Even if it is a different part number, but looks the same connector-wise (take out one of the original disks and compare), I'd slide it in and see what happens on reboot.

But don't force it in the bay - just use gentle pressure to slide it in its home position.

thx for advice. However, I would like to put in ADDITIONAL 2 drives to the existing ones.

Is there a compatability matrix for this? I have asked IBM, but they said this is NOT supported :-(

Ok here's the deal: F80 has 14 disk bays with only 2 occupied, ergo you should be able to add 12 more disks.

2 shouldn't be a problem...

But they have to be disks that fit in the bays...

Well, check out the part numbers of the disks in the machine now.

lscfg -vl hdisk*

and see if you see 07N3712, 07N3711, 07N3674 as per dmgi's website. It says there that it's a B50 disk, but I've seen the same type of disk modules (with blue lever on left) in an S80 also. Perhaps it is als compatible with your machine.

Check info on previous posts - compare connector types and number of pins etc.
