I am currently using version 7 of crystal report but I had lots of problem when I tended to export the report to Excel speadsheet especially for the format so on and so on. I would like to know what will be the best approach or if there is any rule to develop a report so it will minimize the problem of export the report to MS Excel. Any help would be extremely apperciate. Thank you

Your best bet is to upgrade as the exports have improved.

There are lots of posts here regarding this, but I would state that the single best way is to test as you go along, especially with CR 7.

Aligning all objects (fields to headers, etc) is important, and minimizing the complexity. I've even created 2 subreports in a main report, one for display purposes, and one for exporting with the report prompting for a parameter to determine which would be suppressed.

Try to keep your data in columns. Make sure fields do not overlap, edge to edge should be OK. Remove any extra vertical spacing in the Details section (extra space will give you blank rows in Excel). Keep formatting to a minimum. Excel does NOT like CR charts (at least up thru CRv8.5).
