Hi there,

I would like to know if the network traffics are the same or different for the following 2 cases.

Case1: autocreate printers

Case2: disable autocreate printers, citrix server installed printer objects to directly print to the printer

As per my understanding, in case1, citrix server will 1st change the print job to spool file, & send the spool file to client computer, then lcient computer send the spool file to printer, am I correct?

I'm asking this because autocreate printers keep on having plenty of troubles, just wondering if it would be better to disable autocreate printers & manually created printer objects on the citrix server, as most of my client machines are still W98.

Many thanks!

I would find out which is the most consistent.

My guess would be that creating the queue on the Citrix servers would be more consistant, however if you have more than one then thats a pain to replicate etc. Network printers is definately the way to go.

Client printing uses an ica virtual channel and therfore you can limit the bandwidth available to it. If you create the queue on the citrix server then it is not using ica and is just normal MS file&Print stuff, i.e. you cannot touch the bandwidth unless you have a toy to do so.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Scott

Like Scott says; autocreated printing goes over the ica channel, and is somewhat compressed.
Network printing is MS SMB format, and can create quite big printjobs, when using the wrong drivers.
That could hogg bandwidth, as an SMB job will take 100% of the available bandwidth if no restrictive tools are used.
