hi,

I use a Compaq Proliant 800 server with a Pentium III 500MHz processor.

The problem is that for the last three days, whenever I power up the server, I get the message:

Code:
Processor in incorrect slot. - System Halted.
with two beeps (1 long, 1 sort)
and the system does not boot; not even from the floppy.

I have to mention that I did not change anything to the system before I got this message. I didn't add or remove any hardware or software. I just power it off the previous night and power on next morning.

I did check:
* That the processor is firmly in the slot.
* Changed the processor's slot.
* Tried to clear the NVRAM via the 6th switch of the SW1. It does not seem to work.
* Tried to give boot priority to the floppy (4th switch of SW1 on). It does not seem to work.
* The Processor Power Module (PPM). It is working properly (the led is on).
* The memory modules (there are two). Tried with each one alone.
* Replace the RTC battery with an external one.
* The BIOS is updated with the latest version from HP/Compaq's web site.
* Take the System Board off the case and clean it with a "cleaner for electric contacts" spray.

Nothing changed. :(

I think there is a fault with the System Board and that I will have to replace it.
If you have any ideas - suggestions, please help me.

Thanks in advance.

You could try running the F10 configuration utility if it lets you get that far, or run it from the compaq disk set. This would reset the NVRAM which may be corrupted.
Or you could try setting switch 6 to bypass the NVRAM.
Else you have a bad board that needs replacing.

One other thing, your terminator board in the second processor slot may have failed...
