Compaq Proliant 1600 Server HELP 2

If you aren't using a HP smart start CD (That server may not be supported by the current smart start CDs as it may be too old) then you need to find the SCSI / Raid driver from the HP website.
Once you have it, you will need to have it on a floppy disk that will be called upon when you first boot from the Windows 2003 server CD. You will notice that when you first boot from the CD and there is the blue install screen, an option to press 'F6' is displayed in the grey bar at the bottom. This will allow you to specify a disk controller of you choice (the driver on the floppy disk). Once the initial boot from the CD is complete you will need to hit the 'S' key to allow you to specify a controller.
There may also be the case that this server is not supported against Windows 2003.

There is a Compaq smart CD, you can use to set up the raid and so on.
This CD is (or was) avalible on the hp. support site.
I have self (until last week - had a Compaq Proliant 1600 server using Windows 2003 with no problem.
If you cant fint the smart cd please let me know - then I can make a .iso of mine and make it avalible for download to you

you can find the smartstart cd (version 5.50 witch is the latest) her

Just to clarify, SmartStart v5.5 is not the latest version(v7.4 probably is or something like that), but v5.5 is the one you want to use with a Proliant 1600 as v6.x and v7.x will not be compatible with that hardware, only newer hardware.

I was able to get the smartstart cd image off of HP but when I burned cd image to disk (not copied) it didnt boot. I think I have to make the CD bottable first then create the image to dish??
Can I just boot the machine with win2003 in it and folow the prompts to format and reload win2003?

It (the file you downloaded) is probably an .iso image. This is a compressed image of the cd. Your CD buring software will probably have the ability to create a CD from and ISO. Just look at the program's help index and search for ISO. This shouldn't be too hard.

Thanks Andreh for your comments! Very helpful. Im still unclear about what the first step is though, caqn I bootup with Win2003 cd and format and install or do I have to use a the ADU program to partition and format the 2 18 gig drives then use another program to install win2003? Im use to regular machines not servers.

You should boot up with the HP Smart Start CD. This will enable you (with HP DL, ML and BL servers) to configure the disk configuration and the OS. The beauty of these HP CD's is the fact that all device drivers are contained within it and installed automatically.
Have a play around with booting from that CD and see what options there are. There is more than likely to be some sort of documentation contained on the CD itself. HP is very good at providing you with what you need.
Once you are familiar with the process, you will probably realise how nice it is to work with HP (major name brand hardware generally).
