compaq presario 5000, rompaq diskette? system flash rom image

This is the error i get right after turning on the computer. "bootblock emergency recovery mode system flash rom image has been corrupted." "Please insert a ROMPaq diskette into drive A: and cycle the power on the system. A ROMPaq diskette may be obtained from

http://www.compaq.com."

I installed a new hard drive, so I figure its the motherboard or memory. Can someone give me some tips on maybe flashing the bios, or other options to reinstall Windows XP. Thanks

Is the new hard drive a replacement for the original one?

Did your Presario come with a Restore CD?

I was testing a new hard drive, it will not go to the bios, or boot from a cd. I guess I need to boot from a floppy?
I don't have the restore CD.
Do you know where to download some type of boot disk?

Compaqs specially the persarios kept part of the bios config code on the hard drive. This has jumped out and bitten me several times.

I have the original hard drive, but it gives me the same error. Should I try something with the old hard drive. Maybe get a boot disk and format?

Maybe reset the bios?
