compaq nic problems

I am trying to setup up a realtek 8029as pci network card on a Compaq Prosignia 3000 series PC.

every time i put the card in the PC fails to boot up. I have tried changing the setup with the Compaq Bios setup program but as I'm not sure what to set this hasn't worked.

I've tried removing all other PCI cards but this hasn't worked either.

I cannot use the compaq network card because I need to use a BNC connection.
