Compaq EVO N160 Microphone

I have a Compaq Evo N160 with Windows 2000 Professional.
I an unable to get the Built-in Microphone to work. Is this a known problem with Laptops, Win2000 ?

I have the latest drivers from Compaq/Soundmax but they do not help.

Ideas ?

Have you went into the sound properties and checked to see if the mic has been muted? (in control panel under sounds)

It it NOT muted.

Also I have checked on another system, also N160, and it has the same problem.

Does anyone with a N160 running Windows 98 have this problem?
