I have a Compaq 7350 MT Armada laptop and the "mouse" - actually a touchpoint device that looks a lot like a pencil eraser - has problems. I understand these laptops had recurring problems like this.
Sometimes the mouse only works laterally - left and right - but does not work up and down. Sometimes it drifts off to one corner, by itself. You can use it if you put a "preloaded" deflection in the touchpoint.
When these errors occurred, Compaq just replaced the whole keyboard, touchpoint electronics and all. Is there a fix for these, that's cheaper than replacing a keyboard?
TIA,
