As I was linking users MS Word to our company web site thru My Network Places and some how I lost my internal company web site. I now get a “Page cannot be found” error message. A user said that they may have deleted something from My Network Places on his workstation. I think that the site is still out there I don’t have it under Default Web Site.

I check today and I was able to open MY Network Places and see the General Documents folder on companyweb and add a doc to it.
I was also able to go thru MS Word 2003 on my web site link and view the doc.
I looked on the Server under IIS => Server Name => Web Sites => Default Web Site => companyweb and it reads “there are no items to show in this view”
I checked the path: C:\inetpub\ and the folder is empty.
If I open IE and type I get the create a page site.

I am just not sure what I need to do to get it back in with the Default Web Site.
This is hard to explain I hope you can understand my issue.

Any Help

do you have a good backup that you can restore from?

Unfortunately for me I am only backing up the D: drive and MS Exchange. I don’t have a backup of the C: drive to restore.

Too note. Companyweb aka default name for sharepoint on a Win 2003 Small business server.

In IIS you should find default.aspx because you are still browsing companyweb no matter how many pages you add to you site that is all you will see. Only subsite will be visable.

In C:\intepub\ should be empty also.

Sharepoint stores all data on SQL which you cannot browse like folders.

With Sharepoint it is better to use IE to browse to the document libaries and open the documents there.

Are the users able to open IE and view companyweb?
Have you applyed all updates to the server?

When fustrated remember, In the computer world there is allmost always a backdoor.

Beowulf005 & benzgc thanks for responding to this thread and for the helpful insight. After reading your post I went back and took another look at my backup system.

We do have a backup that is Microsoft SQL Server “Backup EXEC”. Is this the SQL/DB where Sharepoint stores all it data?

It looks as if there are 4 DB’s, BEDB, MASTER, MOLDEL, and MSDB not sure what to restore.

When I open IE I cannot view the companyweb, but I can browse to the document libraries.

I really would like to restore the Sharepoint companyweb home page if I could. I had it set as the home page in IE and would like to use it as an Internal Web Site.

Pat

I am not sure but it looks as if the problem is that the virtual directory was deleted.

Would it help if I went to the folder, right click => New => Virtual Directory? I am not sure if when the Wizard kicks in and I locate the folder that has the files for my companyweb site will the wizard restore them.

Don't know what the configuration was before but I will have to try to figure that out or just reconfigure. Should I do this under the Default Web Site?

I would like to know if I am on the right path before I run the Wizard.

Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my issue. I was able to resolve the problem and the Companyweb is working again. I am providing a summary of the key points of my issue with Companyweb, FYI.

Issue: Companyweb not working
Cause: mspclnt not able to uninstall the prior ISA clients
Resolution:
The companyweb was not opening up and gave a dialog box to open "the files can harm your system click open or save"
After opening it then it would give open with dialog box--when opened with the browser it did nothing just sat their In the IIS manager. The companyweb components were scattered throughout, I followed Microsoft article 829114 and removed companyweb.
Restarted the server Companyweb again failed with now and HTTP 403 forbidden. I checked again and found some components are still lingering in the IIS removed them
and followed 829114 again ERROR..............An error occurred while creating groups. Open Active Directory Users and Computers, and manually create a test group to verify that Active Directory is running. Rerun Setup.

>>Applied the Hotfix 832880
>>Companyweb resolved then
>>Issue resolved

Again thank you for responding your time and input in this matter.

Regards,

Pat Kemp
