Compact Flash, CPPIV and CPPM; SSC

Does anyone know the maximum compact flash card size for a CPPIV or CPPM processor? How about the SSC's? I can't find documentation on a size limit or anything like that on Nortel or in the NTP's. I've done installs and upgrades, and seen everything from 64MB to 1 GB...

Is there a different limit depending on the software release, ie, 4.0 to 4.5 to 5.0, etc? How about with SSC's that we use a PCMCIA to CF adapter?

Sorry for the many variables... but thanks in advance! Any pointers to a Nortel reference would be great too.

I have done several installs and the software comes on 512 mb and the backup flash is 128 mb for piv and cppm

I've used a 128MB on an SSC before, on 4.5 systems... Does anyone know of a set limit for them? or find any Nortel documentation on what systems / CP's / etc support what size?

We are now using 128MB PCMCIA flash cards for all of our Option 11C systems, from 25.40 to Succession 4.0, with no problems.

CPIV processors, I have only used the ones that have come with them.

The hard part is finding small flash drives.

I have seen CF 128mb,512mb,1gb from Nortel for CPPIV

SSC probably depends on the vintage of the SSC card,I find that single read/write speed 64mb PCMCIA works best. The newer SSC cards might read a higher capacity. But NORTEL will only support you if you use one of theirs (or whatever they deem supported)

I recently put a 512MB CF card in a version 2121 release 4.50W and the system rebooted. I had a 64 MB but accidently put the 512MB in to the SSC instead.

All of the 1000E CPPMs that I've been working on take 128MB. I have not attempted to put a 512 MB in to see what would happen. I might do that to my system at some point and post the results if I remember.

In the UK, we can't get hold of any 64 Meg PCMCIA cards these days. It's pretty rare to see them second hand on Ebay!. A workaround for the SSC cards is to use the Compact Flash 128 Meg with a PCMCIA Adapter card fitted.

If you have a 40 Meg PCMCIA card, then that will work OK. I've used it on most releases inc rlse 5.0. You will need to use the Nortel Programmer PCMCIA tool if you are installing the software via the *.exe file.

128 is the maximum that you can use (I've tried a 512 Meg & it failed). As for the Pentium 4 systems, I've used a variety of sizes, but the Operating System should be on the 512 Meg card. I have done backups on the smaller 64 Meg cards.

Thanks for the info all - that kind of echoes what I've found from experience. I do use the PCMCIA to CF adapter for SSC's and also the programmer when I put it in my laptop to load software, etc...

It's really hard for us to find anything smaller than 1GB, even 512 is hard to get here in the States.
