CommVault CDR versus CA XOSoft

We're currently looking at a number of replication products and have been asked to compare CDR and Xosoft. Has anyone already done this and could give us +ve or -ve for either?

I have always heard nothing but bad things about CA
We had Unicenter before and it was crap and a system hog.

But maybe they bought a company and thus have Xosoft from them.

CV CDR product is great but I am biased

Is that because you work for them or use the product? If latter then happy to hear why you think it's great.

Could you give me the top 5 strengths - things it does great and the top 5 weaknesses (or areas for improvement). I'm trying to get users opinions so I can put it in a report to my boss!

CDR is great... works a treat and even better if you already have Galaxy installed. You can schedule recovery points at central site and back them up.

Dont forget this is a byte level near-real time replication product. You must have sufficient bandwidth between source and destination to support the daily change rate.

If you like we can perform analsis on your site to see whether CDR or remote office backup is the better fit, then we can deploy it for you if you like.
The remote office backup solution is based on a single instanced MagLib at remote site replicating changed chunks to the central site Maglib using CDR as the replication engine. Remote office backup may be a better fit if you have multiple servers at remote sit to protect, whereas CDR si probably a better fit for single server remote sites.
