Hello
I just installed the critical updates for win2k and now when i open command prompt it starts at C:\Documents and settings, and only can view those files and folders, the hard drive is partitioned into 3 drives I can change to D: and E: without any problem and access any files or folders, if i resort back to a old registry its back to normal C: I then can view and file or folder in C: but if the security updates go back in i get the same problem.

Has anyone run across this problem or know how to fix it without removeing the Updates?

Thanks

Update

Critical Update # KB824141 is causing the problem

Nope cd or cd\ dosent do anything.

When that update is gone everything is fine you can have anything left showing on the command prompt close it and reopen it and your back to C: and you can view the Root of C:
With that critical update installed , when you open Command prompt C:\Documents and Settings shows up after it is closed and reopened its still there, it should go back to C: a fresh prompt..

I installed each update seperately to see which one was the cause of the problem and it was KB824141, as I heard it causes a bunch of other problems also, so who knows, what else..
thanks for your reply

I have KB824141 installed and don't appear to have that problem. It starts me out in the logged on user directory as it does for you but I can go to the root directory and browse it. The account I am on though has administrative rights so maybe that has something to do with it? Maybe the patch restricts user level accounts from accessing any area of the hard drive outside of their local directory.

I do have administrator rites, But its not suppose to start you out as logged on user, I have never seen that before and like i said without that update it works like it is suppose to, it starts at C:
If there was a adminstrator issue then I wouldnt be able to access the C: root when the Update isnt installed, but I can.

From what I have read it affects each machine different, i dont have any of the symptoms that I have read.

I did email Microsoft about this, I doubt that I will hear from them.

ImpetusEra thanks for the responce.
